The year so far has felt pretty weak in terms of cinema, particularly this summer. Perhaps it is just because we are still left with the memory of last year’s “Barbenheimer” phenomena, which brought people flocking back to the cinemas in an unprecedented fashion. But even in 2022, it seemed we had a better slew of summer blockbusters, with Top Gun: Maverick as the main point of interest.

But what do we have this year? Where is the summer blockbuster of 2024?

Is it Twisters, which some deemed the quintessential summer movie, but which received somewhat mixed reviews overall and by no means was the cultural phenomena which we saw in the past two summers?

Or perhaps it is the new Deadpool movie? Certainly more people are talking about this one, and it has been performing exceptionally well at the box office – all things considered.

But certainly, if Deadpool 3 is the summer blockbuster of 2024, and in many ways it seems that it must be, then I can’t help but feel a little disappointed that this was the best we got.

Now, to be fair, I have not yet seen it, but even if it is a really good superhero movie, it would have been nice to get something a bit more varied. We get numerous superhero movies every year.

And perhaps we will get something truly amazing this fall, but the fact remains that as a general trend, the biggest movies of the year seem to be released during the summer.
