When this film hit theaters, the cinematic universe of DC superhero movies was in a major slump. Their films were under-performing compared to their competitor: Marvel. And the films themselves were generally considered to be pretty mediocre.
Now, the roles have switched. Marvel movies and shows are laughed at – with a few rare exceptions – and the recent DC productions and shows have been more highly acclaimed and eagerly anticipated – with a few exceptions.
These movies (for instance Joker) have even managed to start to move away from the cliched, stereotypical superhero action bash – something which I have not seen done since Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy.

Overall, I was very impressed with The Batman. Sure, it was no match for the iconic Dark Knight Trilogy which Nolan gave us. But I didn’t expect it too be, or even need it to be – we already have those movies, and this new one was different enough too be good in it’s own right. In fact, it ended up being my second favorite film from 2022.
However, despite all this praise, there were several things in The Batman which I took issue with.
