Kingsman: The Secret Service | Film Friday
This film was the first installment in a new cinematic universe which is being developed, and was originally based upon a comic book series. I normally would be rather uninterested by the idea of yet another cinematic franchise – and I am sure I will grow tired of this one also – but for the time being this series is small enough and the production level is high enough, that I am still enjoying what they are making.
The strength of this first film in the series, The Secret Service, lay more in the cinematography and editing, rather than the story itself.
What really kept the viewer watching, especially on a second viewing, were the action sequences. The camera-work during these portions was quite creative and almost mesmerizing at times. Certainly, the goal was not realism, but you realized that about 15 minutes into the movie, and it did not pretend to be something it was not.
It’s one of those movies, where the whole thing is rather insane and fantastical if you think about it – you don’t really believe that an organization such as the “Kingsmen” do exist, but the way the story is told is captivating enough that you don’t care.
