Interstellar | Film Friday
While this movie is clearly a science fiction movie, it is also so much more than that. It’s not just about science and space, it’s also about family, love and survival – as well as selfishness, deceit and betrayal. All these elements are perfectly combined into a wonderful narrative, with beautiful cinematography and one of Hans Zimmer’s best soundtracks of all time.
The story is set some time into the future. After years of dust storms and blight, the world is facing deadly famine, with almost nothing other than corn growing anymore. A farmer, named Joseph Cooper is struggling to survive like the rest with his children and father-in-law.
After encountering a strange gravitational anomaly in his daughter’s bedroom, he discovers coordinates to what turns out to be a secret NASA facility. It is here that he learns there is a plan to save humanity by moving it from Earth to a new planet, if one can be found to sustain human life.
Given his past as a former pilot and engineer, he joins the crew as they travel through space in search of a new home. As they travel, they encounter wormholes and black holes and are heavily impacted by gravitational forces and time slippage.
