It’s not often that selecting an unknown movie to watch, almost at random, yields good results. Let’s face it, there is a close to infinite amount of absolute garbage out there and it can be quite difficult sometimes to sort through the rubbish and something actually worth watching, particularly when time is in short supply. But, from time to time something actually interesting does rear it’s head and this film is one such instance.
Out of the Furnace is the rather obscure movie that I stumbled across recently. Yet, despite its relative obscurity and indie-movie feel, it boasts a star-studded cast, with Christian Bale taking the lead, joined by William Defoe, Casey Affleck, Forest Whitaker – and many more.
The film itself is really quite dark and bleak. Now, to be fair, this bleakness is not necessarily pointless, but it is reminiscent of the style of the tragedies of ages past, which end without a glimmer of hope.
