Zack Snyder Should Not Have Made “Rebel Moon”

Sofia Boutella stars in Zack Snyder's "Rebel Moon"

So apparently Zack Snyder has been working on a series of new science fiction films, called Rebel Moon, the second of which recently had its release on Netflix. I was pretty unaware that the first part had come out but with the release of part 2, I went and watched them both to see what the hype was about. And here’s what I found:

I failed to see what the point was in creating this two-part film, because nothing about it felt even vaguely original. Everything, from the setting of the different planets and moons, to the costume designs, to the fact that the citizens were under the oppression of the “Imperium,” instead of the Empire, made it feel like it belonged in the Star Wars universe.

And, after about 30 seconds of research, I discovered that Snyder apparently pitched this story to Lucasfilms for consideration as a Star Wars film. Which, honestly, would have made it all much better. This could have been a half-decent Star Wars film, not a great one by any means, but okay. But attempting to exist outside the Star Wars universe, while staying very similar to that world, was not a good move.

Honestly, given how bad the Star Wars films have been recently, the fact that they rejected this pitch, just goes to show how terrible Rebel Moon is.

And indeed, they were not great.
