Why “Zero Dark Thirty” Was Very Disappointing

“Zero Dark Thirty” | Film Friday

To be completely honest, Zero Dark Thirty was definitely a let down for me. I had heard really good things about it and was really looking forward to finally having a chance to sit down and watch it, but when I did I was disappointed.

Now, it’s not that this film was bad from a technical perspective. The cinematography was good overall, and very well done in certain parts, particularly in the final sequence, depicting the raid on Osama Bin Laden’s house. I thought that part was very well done.

Instead, I had more of an issue with the story.

Of all the characters portrayed, there really was no one to root for. Now, perhaps that was the point of the movie, and that is a fair point to make – you know, what do humans become when they see other humans as the evil others and when they have the power to inflict pain on those others without consequence.

But it was tough to watch a three hour long movie that did not have a single glimmer of hope in it and no one to side with. Besides not being a very enjoyable experience, it was difficult to become immersed in or engaged by the story.
