The Shift | Film Friday
This is a rather unknown science fiction film which was produced with a small budget and mostly unknown actors – although a supporting role in the film was played by Sean Astin, an actor who is best known for his role as Samwise Gamgee in the widely acclaimed Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The story of this film follows a former hedge fund manager, named Kevin Garner, who has become distanced from his wife following the mysterious disappearance of their son. After a devastating car accident, Kevin is pulled to safety by a stranger. This man introduces himself as “The Benefactor” and then reveals that he has pulled – or “shifted” – Kevin into a parallel universe.
Soon after, Kevin realizes that “The Benefactor” is actually Satan and is the totalitarian ruler of this dystopian universe, in which Kevin is now trapped. In this world, the Christian Bible and even prayer itself is strictly forbidden, so Kevin begins to write down the passages he remembers from Scripture, distributing them to other inhabitants through his friend.
